This is Mac, This is Rogan: the Script

1.1

Mac and Rogan stand in a frame. Mac's waving and smiling; Rogan has his arms crossed.

Caption: This is Mac.

Caption: This is Rogan.

Mac and Rogan are now holding hands. Mac holds his other hand to his mouth and looks excited and happy. Rogan's looking away but smiling a little, as though shy. A little heart floats above their heads.

Caption: Rogan and Mac are dating.

1.2

Mac is now leaning on a cane. He has glasses, a long white beard and moustache, and no hair. Rogan is a baby in a diaper with a rattle and a pacifier. Both look rather startled.

Caption: Mac is twenty-eight.

Caption: Rogan is twenty.

Mac has on his Christian Church Disciples of Christ necklace on and holds a Bible in his hand. Rogan is leaning back and holding up his hands as though to decline an offer.

Caption: Mac is a Southern Baptist.

Caption: Rogan is an atheist.

Mac: "My favorite is the book of Ruth."

Rogan: "Not my thing."

Mac and Rogan stand at the left side of the panel; at the right, there is a sign with a picture of a muffin and "$8." Mac is pointing at it and looks excited; one of his hands is off-panel, following Rogan's back. Rogan looks as though he is in mid-jump and looks startled.

Caption: Mac likes to spend. Rogan likes to save.

Mac: "Oh man, those look good!"

Rogan: "But we just a--THAT'S NOT MY WALLET POCKET!"

Mac has his arms around Rogan and appears to be either kissing or nuzzling his cheek. Rogan is blushing and resolutely has his arms crossed, though it's obvious he's liking the attention.

Caption: Mac is a flagrant cuddleslut. Rogan is in the closet about it.

Little music notes dot the page. Mac is doing a little dance and looks happy. Rogan has a deer-in-headlights look and is staring at Mac as though unsure what to do with him.

Caption: Mac loves to dance.

Caption: Rogan's too self-conscious.

A little easel stands to the side, with a little painting. Rogan has a pencil behind his ear and has a hand on Mac's elbow. Mac is holding a piece of paper tight to his chest and blushing with embarrassment.

Caption: Rogan loves to draw.

Caption: Mac's too self-conscious.

Rogan: Wow, hey, you drew something, that's awesome!"

Mac: "No, no, it's nothing..."

2.1

Rogan stands proudly, holding a thick tome in front of him with one hand and the other on his chest. He's obviously enjoying what he's reciting. Mac is buckled over in the corner, one hand to his face, obviously cracking up over the book in his own hand.

Caption: Rogan likes to read Shakespeare aloud.

Caption: Mac likes to read select parts of romance novels aloud.

Rogan: "Some glory in their birth, some in their skill...(1)"

Mac: "'...both of them reaching dizzying heights of pleasure and erupting like bursting stars that rained to earth--' BWA-HAH-HA!"

Rogan has been replaced by a skinny girl with a big ponytail. She has a black eye and her arm is in a sling; she looks put out. Mac is dressed in a football uniform and is covering his face with one hand, as though mortified. He has a helmet in his free hand.

Caption: Rogan was beat up by football players as a child.

Caption: Mac WAS a football player as a child.

Rogan: "Look, that was a long time ago, I was a completely different person."

Mac: "God, I had no class back then..."

2.2

Rogan wears a backpack; his face is partially obscured by a massive stack of textbooks in his arms. Mac is in his PIN uniform and has a tranq-gun in one hand, one of Rogan's books in the other.

Caption: Rogan has studied nonstop since he was sixteen.

Caption: Mac has worked nonstop since he was sixteen.

Mac: "You dropped one."

The men stand with their arms around each other. They each hold a DVD: Rogan has Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mac Escape from New York. Rogan has a raised eyebrow; Mac looks surprised.

Caption: Rogan and Mac are very different people. People ask how they live together.

Speech Bubble: "So how do you guys live with each other, anyway?"

2.3

Rogan sits surrounded by piles of books and papers. His face is buried in his hands. Mac is hugging him and looking sympathetic.

Caption: Well, for some reason, whenever Rogan is overwhelmed, Mac helps him breathe.

Mac: "Here, it's okay, you'll get it done."

Mac is standing looking sad. Rogan stands behind, hugging him.

Caption: And whenever Mac is pretending he's not unhappy, Rogan helps him not pretend.

2.4

They stand facing each other. Rogan's looking downward, apologetic. Mac looks forgiving.

Caption: And even when they aren't at their best, they know when to apologize, and somehow, hobbies, Bibles, and muffins really aren't that big a deal.

Rogan: "I'm sorry. I've been a wreck all week."

Mac: "Hey, I haven't been all that great either. It's been a really rough time."

They hug. Both are smiling.

Caption: That's why they've stayed together.

Rogan: "You wanna get a muffin?"

Mac: "That'd be great."
